Institute of Art History






The Institute operates at the Faculty of Historical Sciences of UKSW.






Scientific research conducted by employees of the Institute of Art History of UKSW focuses especially on the subject of iconography of Polish art.

The Institute of Art History also undertakes research on artistic craftsmanship, museology and musicology. It also conducts work on Polish cultural heritage abroad, including architecture of Lviv, documentation of Polish churches in the USA, documentation of cemeteries, primarily in the former Tarnopol Province and in Vilnius.

The staff of the unit consists of scientists and lecturers who have work experience in offices and cultural institutions, e.g. the Royal Castle Museum or the Provincial Office for the Protection of Monuments.

The unit offers first- and second-cycle studies in the field of art history and cultural heritage management, as well as first-cycle studies in the unique field of protection of cultural property and the environment.

Students of the Institute can develop their interests in the Student Science Club. The Institute also publishes the valued student magazine “Artifex”, and exhibitions are organized in the gallery called “Galeria przy Automacie”.
