– Teaching medical personnel is a huge responsibility and a great challenge. I strongly believe that despite certain tough experience with the development of the Collegium Medicum building, we have managed to build a unique community to undertake this task. This community works for the superior idea, which is the benefit of the University, and therefore the benefit and growth of our whole Mother Country – rev. prof. Ryszard Czekalski, PhD hab., Rector.

Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz, the Archbishop of Warsaw, spoke about the need to remember all those who contributed to the history of the Faculty of Medicine at UKSW.

– I would like to appreciate the work of all those who have contributed to the entrance of medicine to UKSW – he said and added: – The most important thing is what and who this building is going to serve. Thus, I will bless the people who will make this Faculty yield good and useful fruit.

Przemysław Czarnek, Minister of Science and Higher Education, recognized UKSW’s openness to medical students from Ukraine who will be studying at our University. He also emphasized the collaboration of the universities of Warsaw in the field of medical training. – To set up a faculty of medicine and to continue its development is not an easy job. You need support from medical schools, local and central government authorities. I hereby declare to give you that support – the Minister assured.

Piotr Bromber, Vice-Minister of Health, added his assurance of the support to be offered to WMCM.  – Together with the Ministry of Education, we endeavor to improve the infrastructure for medical training, to admit more students and to offer more opportunities for training of future physicians.

The Vice-Minister emphasized the importance of opening a faculty of medicine at our University because of the environment of social studies. — The numbers are important, so is the infrastructure, but we also need more humanity in medicine. Here at UKSW, the environment of other sciences and studies offers this unique opportunity to see how important people are for medicine – he said.

The Rector of UKSW said this to the students: – To serve and to search for the truth is the primary role of medical studies at UKSW. You should see your patients not just as a new medical case but always, firstly, as a human being. You should view people horizontally, with empathy, remembering that the human body carries a great treasury, which is the soul.

Erection of the new seat of the Faculty of Medicine Collegium Medicum UKSW began on 17 April, 2020 and the cornerstone was laid in the presence of Cardinal Kazimierz Nycz and representatives of State authorities on 18 August, 2020. The project was executed by Skanska S.A. The total cost of the building with fitting was at nearly 43 million PLN.
