The Center for Applied Ethics and Bioethics “Dignitas” was established in January 2017. The unit operates as part of the Faculty of Christian Philosophy of UKSW.
The aim of the Center for Applied Ethics and Bioethics “Dignitas” is to implement the social functions of philosophy, to conduct interdisciplinary research in the field of applied ethics and bioethics. The entity is a continuation of the Center for Human Ecology and Bioethics, which in the years 2000-2016 operated as an interdepartmental unit of UKSW in Warsaw.
The Center seeks solutions to practical moral problems on philosophical grounds, and cooperates with other domestic and foreign units. The unit participates in the public debate on contemporary ethical and bioethical issues and organizes scientific conferences, training sessions, workshops and courses.
The “Dignitas” Center runs Postgraduate Studies in Bioethics and Medical Law, organized by the Faculty of Christian Philosophy and the Faculty of Law and Administration. One of the tasks of the center is the activity of the Ethics and Bioethics Committee of UKSW in Warsaw.
The Center also coordinates the functioning of the Polish Working Group on Ethical Problems of End of Life.
